UK health and safety law explained

Safe workplaces in the UK are built on a small set of key laws, enforced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and local authorities:

  • Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974: the main law, which places duties on employers and employees
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999: requires employers to assess risks and train staff
  • COSHH Regulations 2002: controls exposure to hazardous substances
  • Work at Height Regulations 2005: aims to prevent falls and injuries
  • RIDDOR 2013: requires certain injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences to be reported

Our courses explain how these laws apply to everyday work, in plain language.

How TQual qualifications are assessed and awarded

[Describe the assessment method, for example assignments, written questions or an exam, and how learners study.] After a learner completes the assessment successfully, TQual AB issues a certificate. Employers and learners can check a certificate’s authenticity on our Certificate Verification

 Career and progression

A health and safety qualification can lead to roles such as Health and Safety Officer, Safety Coordinator, Risk Manager or Health and Safety Manager. Many learners start at Level 2, move to Level 3, and then progress to higher qualifications as their responsibilities grow.
